Current Obsession: Martina Thornhill Ceramics

Martina Thornhill is a self taught ceramic artist based in Portland, Oregon and her beautiful work is my current obsession! Her beautiful hand built mugs are not only beautiful but actually large enough for a proper cup of tea or coffee (why do so many people make small mugs?)!

I personally am a bit obsessed with the sleepy eye pour over and the eye mug...

Martina Thornhill : Striped Mug

"I create slab built functional vessels from my home studio, using inspiration from nature, flea market treasures, primitive folk crafts, abstract art and cross country travels. Drawing on my background in fiber arts, I approach ceramics from a different perspective. Treating my clay like fabric I develop patterns, fuse seams, and use my hands to create drape and flow.

Clay bodies are chosen for the texture they bring to the piece and for their raw color contrast against glossy glaze patterns. These methods allow me to create production pieces that still maintain a sense of individuality and personality. It is important to me that each piece is unique in the way it sits on the table, or fits in the hand regardless of how many I've made. For me, my craft is about more than my methods and the objects I create. It is about curating a vision that takes into account my experiences and inspirations, and finds a connection in the homes and hearts of others. It is about slowing down and making every day objects special instead of disposable."

Current Obsession: Kaico Kettle by Makoto Koizumi

Keico Kettle in the home of Claire Cottrell

I have been looking for a beautiful stove top kettle for a while and have seen this beautiful Kaico Kettle by Makoto Koizumi. The design is simple and classic and it reminds me of the beautiful vintage enamel kettles that pop up every now and then on Etsy and eBay. Not only are Enamel stove top kettles beautiful and durable but with a gas stove these are actually more efficient than an electric kettle!

Multidisciplinary designer Makoto Koizumi’s portfolio ranges from the very small (chopstick rests and tea kettles) to the very large (residential architecture projects and interior design). And ever since he established his own studio in 1990 he’s approached each project with the same emphasis on tradition and craft. In 2003 he opened his first shop in Kunitachi – a western suburb of Tokyo.

This kettle is available from Amazon or twenty twenty one

Shop : The Silk Road

The Silk Road: Online Shop of World Treasures
Mirrored Cushion/pillow from the Desert Collection

Tharu Spike Necklace,  Yak Bells and Camel Tassles

The Silk Roads on-line store opening last month was eagerly anticipated by all their Instagram followers. The store owned by friends Lou and Rachel is full of beautiful, and very reasonably priced, bounty from their many travels abroad.

On my first visit to the Silk Road I bagged myself a pair of beautiful Om spoons that were handcrafted by metal work artisans of Patan, Nepal and a really stunning Tharu Spike collar (I had wanted one of these for ages) and I am already have my eye on some of the beautiful textiles, especially the Rann of Kutch Wall Hanging.... so hands off! :)

Rachel is currently wowing instagram followers of her travel in Iran with her daughter Luna and her beautiful pregnant bump........  and giving me major wanderlust!... and awe.... walking to the corner shop was a mission when I was pregnant!

I cant wait to see what global treasures she comes home with.

I urge you to check out the Silk Road for yourselves here

Current Obsession: At Swim Two Birds

These beautiful handmade fluffy cushion covers are from At Swim Two Birds. They remind me of making pompoms with my sister when I was little.

Not only do they make great cushions but they would look awesome on the wall as textile art. These cushion covers can be purchased directly from At Swim Two Birds. When a piece is made she displays them on her Flickr account. They sell fast so keep your eyes open :)

Current Obsession: Marvin Frietas Triangle Mirrors

Marvin Freitas' Triangle Mirrors

I have seen these beautiful triangle mirrors doing the rounds on Pinterest and tumblr and wondered where they came from. I would love one of these at the top of my stairs!!!

...... They are the work of Carpenter Marvin Frietas....

Marvin has been a carpenter for almost 20 years and his inspiration began as a young boy watching his grandfather make things in his small garage shop in Galicia, Spain.

Marvin told Moon to Moon that he "always felt that my hands had something and I could translate me vision into reality in terms of furniture" and the "Triangle mirror is a reflection on my child hood growing up in Galicia"

Now based in Minneapolis MN his custom work sells in select boutiques in the US, choosing to work alone as he doesn't want to get to big.

Current Obsession: Abate Mirror from Anthropologie

Elsie Joseph of Pennyweight in front of the Abate Mirror from Anthopologie
As soon as I saw this picture of Elsie Joseph in front of that mirror pop up on pinterest I knew 3 things:
1) I had to share it with you guys...
2) I had to find the mirrors origins and
2) I had to have this mirror!!

Well 2 out of 3 ain't bad.... Sadly for me the Abate mirror is only available through Anthropologie.com and for some annoying reason I cant even look at the USA site here in the UK (so I am not sure if the above link works as i cant test it).

Fingers crossed this beauty will be available over here soon

Current Obsession: Encorporating Mirror balls into your home....

Mirror Ball Staircase
Mirror balls of different sizes

Mirror ball
Mirror Ball planter
Huge mirrorball in fireplace

I love Mirror balls. They totally appeal to the magpie in me. Although they kind of remind me of those horrible nightclubs you go to when you are too young to know better clubs exist, I have always wanted one.  I love how in these images the owners/stylists have made them look a bit cooler and even more sophisticated..... The also look great hanging in the window shining little squares of light into the room!!

Current obsession: Indian Chakki Tables...

Indian Chakki table via Beyond Marrakesh
Indian Chakki Table
Chakki/ grinder Table
Hand painted Chakki grinder table from India
You know one of those elusive items that you see when you have overspent for the month and then spend years daydreaming about and kicking yourself for not getting? That is how I feel about the beautiful Indian Chakki Table that I saw in Glastonbury's Dilway and Dilway 4 or 5 years ago. Since then I have been searching and searching but have never found one in the UK that hasn't 'just been sold', too big for my sitting room or topped with a cushion and transformed into an ottoman.

Originally used as a base and stand for household stone mills they make great coffee tables, especially if you are clumsy like me and have habit of knocking over red wine and coffee as the raised edge can help prevent it running over the sides and ruining your carpet or favorite rug.

One day I will have one...
