Insta-Homes.... Karie Reinertson from Shelter

I have become obsessed with instagram. Call me nosey, but I am so interested in people and how they live, I think thats why I became a nurse. So many people have such beautiful homes that they share on instagram, so I put an instagram call out for people to share theirs and I have been overwhelmed with images.

So this is the first of my Insta-homes posts, featureing the home of the talented bag maker Karie Reinertson from Shelter. I have chosen this home as it has such a beautiful, warm inviting feel, full of beautiful textiles and patterns. I would love to sit on that chair, read a book and listen to a bit of Dylan. The beauty of her home is reflected in her stunning hand made bags... i Urge you to check them out here.

Readers Homes... Raw Chocolatier, Laura Coxeter

Beautiful Bedroom

Donovan and Lloyd Loom
Vintage coats and bags

I love instagram. I have found so many interesting people through it. One of them is the lovely Laura, a raw chocolateir and Radio d.j living in London. I was so stocked when she agreed to show us around her beautiful warehouse living space, and am defiantly not disappointed. Here is more about the Lovely Laura....

1) Tell us a little bit about you and where you live?

I live in North London, in a large Warehouse-sharing with 13 other people! I've only been here a month & it's quite a different way of living! By day I'm a Chocolatier- I make Raw, Vegan chocolate. I also DJ & host a radio show.

2) What attracted you to your home?

 The space & light!

3) Do you have a favourite/sentimental item?

Oh goodness! I couldn't pick one single item, all my things are treasures! I do have a box of 'Ephemera'. Letters, cards, tickets, trinkets that I keep. Reminders of people & special times.

4) Where do you buy your furnishings? Any recommendations?

I've picked stuff up all over the place, over the years. My mum was always going to junk shops, charity shops & even the rubbish tip when I was growing up! I get my collectors eye from her. I've found a few bits from car boot sales & used to live by Portobello road which was a constant source of treasure.

5) What/who inspires your personal/ home style?
I love interiors that look 'lived in'. Eclectic, homely, cluttered even. My mum was always into the Victorian/Edwardian/Georgian periods. Lots of dark wood, deep reds on the walls, always lots of photos & paintings about. Antique Persian rugs and old books. That is an aesthetic that's rubbed off- but I do like to throw in the odd Deco piece & of course love the 60's & 70's earthy look. Lots of wood, ceramics, crochet, plants. Plus a touch of the East & some velvet & lace decadence.

6) What/ where would be your dream home?
I'm torn between a wooden house, in the forest. Natural, with a wood burning stove & lots of sheepskin. I also love the classic elegance of a Georgian townhouse, filled with dusty bookshelves & lamps......

7) What was the last item you brought?

I actually bought a large Persian rug. It was a (rare) eBay bargain!

8) Do you have a wish list item for your home?
Oooh- always searching for better storage for my records. I'd love more macramé plant hangers & to build a glass terrarium.

This readers home is the Lovely Sarah from La Maison Boheme. Here Sarah tells us a litle more about her beautiful home....

1) Tell us a little bit about you and where you live?
My name is Sarah Greenman and I'm a writer, artist, actor, blogger and Mama to two boys. I live in Dallas, Texas with my husband in a ranch style home.  We moved to Dallas from Seattle and are still getting to know our new home town.

2) What attracted you to your home?
It had great energy and flow.

3) Do you have a favourite/sentimental item?
This is a tough question because my home is filled with things that I love. I really adore my grandmother's decoupaged screen. She was a costumer and used the screen to pin up her renderings.  Then she started decoupaging them to the screen. Every time she'd do a new show, she'd put up the new sketches over the old ones.  If I were ever to excavate the screen's layers, I'm sure I'd find 10 or 15 separate costume designs beneath each panel.

4) Where do you buy your furnishings? Any recommendations?
All over really. I'm an avid Craigslist searcher. I also love consignment and thrift stores.  IKEA is also an easy go-to place for organizational furnishings like shelves, etc. Lula B's in Dallas is a favorite place to find home goods.

5) What/who inspires your personal/ home style?
I'm inspired by traveling.  I feel like every time I come home from somewhere (Mexico, Scotland, France, Italy) I want to completely remake my home in that style.  I also really love designers Isabella Lopez Quesada and Steven Gambrel.  Their spaces really speak to me.

6) What/ where would be your dream home?
Someplace where I could grow my own food without having to fight the elements and someplace near the sea. The home itself would be older with lots of charming details.  I'd also have my own studio space - a room completely my own.

7) What was the last item you brought?
A set (12) of cocktail glasses - 6 short and 6 tall buckets.  They're from the 70's - black glass with gold coins stamped into the sides.  I found them at a consignment shop - 10 dollars for the entire set.

8) Do you have a wish list item for your home?
Yes.  It's a long list.  But I would really love to replace the floors in our home with a unified hard wood.  The existing parque floors are done.  They've had their day and the home really needs something new.  Or new windows, or a master bath remodel, or a revamped master closet, or a new kitchen sink (ours leaks), or a new fridge (ours floods every other day due to a faulty ice maker).

Thank you Sarah, be sure to check out her beautiful blog La Maison Boheme

Readers Homes: Jessica from Lonely Moon Child

I have been sent so many pictures of cool homes and funky furniture finds from readers over the last few years that I thought it was about time I started showing off some of your beautiful abodes via a new feature simply called 'readers homes'.

I had seen a few shots of Jessica's house on facebook and knew I wanted to see more. Although Jessica still lives at home with her folks her bedroom is full of character and style. I am loving that shell mobile, collection of knitted blankets, and that vintage, retro green chair is so awesome!! I would defiantly feel comfortable chilling it that room listening to a bit of Jimi.....

The wrapped stones in the second picture are from Jessica's etsy store Lonely Moon Child, where she also sells vintage clothes, well worth a visit.
