Although arguably there are some beautiful pristine condition textiles available on the high street there is nothing more rewarding than getting your hands on a one off quality piece. A simple search on etsy or eBay will open the doors to some beautiful Kantha's from India, Otomi from Mexico, Suzani's from Uzebekistan, Kelim from Morocco or Harris tweed that costs roughly the same as the high street copies but has been made by true textile artists. The originals are also such beautiful quality.

Not only are these pieces great as individual pieces but as you can see from the image below if chosen in similar hues, textiles from allover the world look great layered together.

Cabin Porn....

Woodland Cabin:
Phil Elverum from the bands The Microphones and Mount Eerie lived here for a year in Anacortes, Washington.
Hunting cabin near the west branch of the Sacandaga River in the Adirondack Park, NY.
Uvershula in Nordland, Norway sits on idyllic seashore location with fine views of the nearby Lofoten Islands.  Built by a local school teacher, it has a wood burning stove, coffee pot, and a hut log book with comments from travellers from all over the world.
Public treehouse designed and built by students at the Yestermorrow school.
I built this hillside cabin in 1974 in the redwoods near Mendocino, CA, using framing recycled from an old chicken ranch and home-milled siding and shingles. The skylights were tempered plate glass seconds from a sliding door company. My daughter wanted to play with her dollhouse, but it was raining.
Fire lookout in the Cascade Mountains of Washington state.
Ski Patrol Cabin in Eaglecrest Ski Area outside Juneau, Alaska
A “bach” on the edge of Hokianga Harbour in Northland, New Zealand

I have found a new tumblr called Cabin Porn. Above is a small collection of some of the most beautiful cabins from around the world. It was very, very hard not to reblog every single picture.

Texture and Pattern from around the World:The home of  Stephen and Tracy McCarthy

I am so pleased with the lovely ladies at Style like u, this week. The featured style is of the Charming Tracy McCarty and her husband Stephen. It is so nice to see the home of someone I have been aware of on the blogging world for some time. Tracy's blog Prism of Threads and shop of the same name are both regular reads.  Their home is more fabulous than I imagined it would be. Rich colours and patterns, vintage mixed with modern, textiles from around the world.... Yey:)
