Cob houses...

This  Cob house interior is so stunning, i love the organic shape of the walls and the wooden roof.

Bohmian style cob house interior

I love cob houses, they are beautiful bohemian organic homes made of clay, sand, straw, water and earth.. Here in the UK there are an estimated half a million of these cob or earth houses, some of which date back to the thirteenth century. They are especially common in the good ole west of England (where I live).

I have always dreamt of building my own home, now if only I could build one of these up a tree!

  1. I'm not so keen on them myself, or rather, I wouldn't be keen on living in one. I love the natural shapes though, and how they look they could have just grown out of the ground. Beautifully organic x

  4. One of my friends who is a "traditional" builder, goes to Portland Oregon every summer to help build with cob. They do amazing things.

  5. Fantastic! You're so fortunate to live in a place with such history, too. The US is such a baby country.

  21. They are all beautiful : )

The bohemian interior of an "earth bag home"...
still made of earth, but totally different method to cob.
Long bags are filled with stabilised earth (soil, water and lime).

No matter which method, you can't get much more sustainable than building with earth ; )

    Thanks for sharing!
