These images are of the Old Building of the original Cincinnati and Hamilton country Library. In 1874 the Public library of Cincinnati moved into the small building originally meant to be an opera house, Sadly by the 1950's the library outgrew the building and it was knocked down. So sad.... espcially when you look at its grim replacement....
What a shame, that old library was so beautiful. Loved the spiral staircases! I agree, the replacement is ugly. Thanks for showing us the photos of the old one, I had never seen it before.

ReplyDeleteIt is so very sad that they tear down these beautiful old buildings...and replace them with some modern version. Also....it is so very sad that so many old book stores are disappearing. I used to be able to go into some small wonderful spot and browse for hours get a cup of coffee and just sit and real. Alas....there are so very few of these gems left over here anymore.

I can't believe it!! I was just in Ohio, and as I saw the beginning of your post, I got excited thinking that I should visit that beautiful building when I go back. Then I saw the dreary replacement. It's a shame.
ReplyDeleteI thought of you, however, this past week (in Ohio!). I was given a hand crocheted bedspread that my husband's grandmother made. It's exquisite and i thought of Moon to Moon. I love visiting for my bohemian interiors inspiration.

It was so beautiful I could have spent days looking through all the books & taking in the atmosphere of the place. So sad it's gone.

ReplyDeleteThere is a place in time & space where this lovely old building still exists, where you can still catch the vanilla smell of old books, and walk among the endless stacks...I believe time is a loop not a ribbon and that there is a way to revist these places of the 'past'...okay I didn't work it out yet, but I will ;)
