I personally don't have a bathroom big enough for a rug, and to be honest with my family it would probably get soggy, damp and smelly quite quickly.... hmmmm, not really selling the idea am I?
Maybe a nice washable woven cotton rug on a tile floor? Personally, I don't even like wooden floors in bathrooms. Too difficult to keep clean and hygienic. Also, an open invitation to water penetration, rotten joists and similar nastiness.
I keep a lovely Persian rug in our guest bath -- it is very rarely used and the rug goes beautifully with the rest of the colors in there. I have a couple of rubber-backed bath mats I put in there when guests actually do visit -- they protect the rug well enough. I have to agree, though. In any hard-used bathroom, they would become pretty manky.
actually...wool is pretty resilient! it sort of repels water, which sits on top of the fibers and dries pretty quickly. and it doesn't feel icky when you step on it with wet feet. i have small persian rugs in baths, and kilims work well too.
no no no no no

ReplyDeleteI was just thinking they are lovely in powder rooms, but not sure I want to step on a wool rug when I get out of the bath

ReplyDeleteBack in the day, rugs in the bath kept the floors warm. Bathrooms were always very cold. Back in the day is not that far back.
