One room to rule them all...

I have spent weeks sifting through my hundreds of photos that I have stored up, to find a suitable few to team this one with but always fail. But I love it so much I have decided it needs a post of its own.

I am really in LOVE with this room, I can imagine walking around bear footed, sitting crossed legged on those sofas reading a book off the shelf. and lighting some incense on the table. And that cheese plant... Wow

I spoke too soon. I have just found this second picture of the same room. Lushness :)

It was all Yellow...

The bottom picture is a Nathan Altman painting and is one of my favourites, although blue is the main colour, there is something about that yellow pashmina, so this post is inspired by her shawl.

Healing spaces

Imagine you are ill, it could be a headache, a cold or worse, you wake up and look around, where would you like to be, what would your ideal surroundings look like to make you feel better, to motivate you to get back on your feet? Large windows with flowing white curtains rippling in the breeze? Large open windows looking into a garden of beautiful trees and plants? Natural light pouring in the room? Organic shapes and wooden surfaces? Pots of plants in your room?

This is my dream for my patients. I am currently in my third year of my nursing degree and have just started my dissertation module. 9 months of hard work coming up! I have known for a while that I wanted to concentrate on alternative or complementary therapies, however funnily enough whilst reading some research papers on 'healing' I came across an article on the 'healing environment'. Isn't it so weird when something just clicks?

I have an art degree, I am more than a little obsessed with calming interiors, and as my moving rituals have proved (last post), I feel uneasy when things aren't right in my environment.

So what a perfect topic. If I get freaked out by new surrounding and I am not ill, what about my patients?

Currently the hospitals I work in are full of the latest technology and hundreds of wonderful nurses ready to do bend over backwards for their patients, yet the environment is so clinical and stale. There is so much proof that hospitals are the worst place to get better yet I suppose due to a lack of funds nothing is done about it.

I can't wait to get started

Home

I once read that to make cats feel at home, when you move, you should put butter on their paws so they lick it off and feel at home, never having had cats I don't know if its true, but at the moment I am scattering my cushions, lighting candles and incense, cooking my favourite comforting food, listening to plenty of music and taking lots of baths to try and make me feel settled in my new home.

Isn't it strange the rituals we go through to make ourselves feel right in new surroundings? How much 'better' one can feel when our pots and pans have found a home in the cupboard, the satisfaction we feel when our mirror is placed on the mantle next to the ostrich feathers and other assorted trinkets and how we can feel more at peace when sitting against that ratty loveable cushion on our favourite chair with a cup of tea (or coffee)?

Can I live in a tree please?

Okay, I have been told it is weird, and I do know that I am not an Ewok,  and I am not staring in Robin hood prince of thieves or a lost boy from Hook, But I so wish I was!!
I have always wanted to live in a tree.

Turquoise

I really enjoyed putting together the last post. So I thought I may do another colour one, this time (obviously) dedicated to my favourite mineral turquoise. I have so much turquoise jewellery it is ridiculous, But there is always room for more, wouldn't you agree?

African Masks

My dad has always collected African masks, he got his first one as a boy. When I was younger they were always on the wall besides our stairs. I was so scared they would 'get me' I used to run past them. Now I think they are brilliant and have thought about collecting a few of my own.

Dinner parties

I am moving house in a couple of weeks, and I am going to have a huge kitchen with a massive wooden dining table. I am so excited, especially as currently we live in a tiny little house with no table to eat off. I can't wait to have dinner parties again.
