The Houseboat of... Illustrator Tabby Booth..

The beautifully eclectic houseboat home of London based illustrator Tabby Booth

For any regular readers that read my ramblings, you will know that I have a bit of an obsession with houseboats and spend hours on boat sale websites dreaming about buying a dutch barge. I have to say I think I may have found the perfect little home, sadly it is already taken...

This houseboat named The Long haired Eel is the Home of London based illustrator Tabby Booth and is in my eyes perfect. Bright paint, kilim and sheepskin rugs, tuns of books, a wood burner and a bed nook!! This is the coziest boat I have seen!

Tabby moved onto the river last year into a rented room , before taking the leap and buying the long-haired Eel. The boat was in her words "a complete shell of crap, and we have cleaned it out and built it up from scratch ourselves... it's not quite finished yet but we're getting there slowly"

Houseboat: Retts Woods London Home Photographed by Todd Selby

Retts Wood on her houseboat home in London

I have always had a bit of a thing about houseboats. When I was 10 I joined the Sea Cadets and loved knot tying, rowing and Canoeing and spent a couple of awesome holidays on Canal boats. At 15 and listening to a lot of Portishead and Massive Attack, having quit sea cadets because I thought myself to cool, I dreamt about moving to Bristol (home of Massive Attack, Portishead and Banksy), being an Artist and living on a houseboat that I could just float away on when I wanted.

1 out of 3 isn't bad... I moved to Bristol....

However, as I currently own a house with noisy neighbors the idea of owning a home that you could simply move to a different spot if you were moored next to a inconsiderate knobhead, is becoming even more tempting, and having a look at these affordable homes, the dream is actually not really that unobtainable..

This particular houseboat is owned by British Photographer Retts Wood and is moored in London. The images are all by Todd Selby and many more of this beautiful home can be found on his site here. Being tall, having a 6'3 fella and currently thinking about starting a family this one would be too small ( I am thinking more Dutch Barge), but these images are so inspirational.....

expect plenty of Houseboat posts to come :)

For Bananenblatt

We heart it

PIntrest

Wolfteeth

Okay, so we all dream. Dream about renovating a camper or a boat or maybe living in a self built home but for most of us it is sadly just that. So for those that actually do it I have the utmost respect. We have a VW camper but that came modified and if I am honest it needs a fair bit of TLC.

So this post is inspired by and for Bananenblatt one of my lovely blog friends who is actually restoring a motor home. So cool.

Edit. I forgot to mention, 'a girl from the north' blog, a new blog written by the lovely Moomin (awesome name) renovating a narrowboat. Inspired I spent hours looking at narrowboats and barges yesterday. sigh*
