Current Obsession: Haptic Lab's Constellation Quilt

I really, really love this Constellation Quilt from Haptic lab that I found over at Sparton Shop. It would be awesome as a quilt on the bed or as a wall hanging.

The 100% cotton 60" quilt features embroidered gold stars in the October night sky at around the 40th parallel in the Northern Hemisphere, Tiny French knots are used to render the Milky Way as a tactile field that crosses the quilt design in a sweeping diagonal.

The quilt is handmade in Brooklyn.

Map Quilts by Mary Bryning

Mary Bryning Quilted Map: Ullswater

I recently got mentioned in an online article about Moon to Moon as a blogger and mother from California...... well the majority of my readerships are US based and I love the whole Californian aesthetic but I don't live there. Originally from Brighton, England, I now live in Bristol, England. So, I thought it was about time I featured a little more art, textiles and properties from here in the UK. I recently found these stunning map quilts by Bristish artist Mary Bryning so thought these were the perfect place to start....

Mary combines her love of textiles and embroidery with an interest in maps and the effect human settlement has on the landscape. Her work explores the patterns of geography and cartography using hand-dyed or printed fabric, recycled maps, appliqué and machine embroidery, producing images of familiar and well-loved places from unfamiliar viewpoints. She also creates work based on natural forms on the coast, in the countryside and in gardens.

Stunning Velvet Quilt ELLE France // February 2013 Via Born to be wild

When someone says quilt making I used to think of naff handmade quilts, with pastel flower patterns favoured by grannies worldwide, however I have recently found a new respect for the world of quilting.

I have Come across awesome skilled quilt artists, like Karen Stone whose intricate psychedelic patterns remind me of Abstract artists like Kandinsky, and have totally inspired me... although I may start off with something a lot more simple.. like learning how to use a sewing machine.. I am hoping the second image (black and white quilt) is a bit more realistic

The Home of...

Safe within my Womb: I fell in love with this beautiful eclectic den a number
of years ago and been searching for the source ever since. Candles, Kilim, Cushions
and rickety book shelves, I don't think I would ever leave this room

Bohemian bedroom: Suzani, Kilim and Indian Patchwork - such a cozy room
Beautiful eclectic sitting room with Indian throws and  kilim cushions

Sitting room: Light some Nag Champra and relax
Beautiful Handmade Vintage Kantha Quilts from India

The minute I saw that top picture I fell in love.... Everything about it is perfect, the Kilim cushions, the layered rugs, the books, the bed on the floor... all that's missing is me, my current read (Lolita), a pot of tea and my Nag Champra :)

....So my search (thanks to Introducing New Worlds) is over, so here is the home of the Lovely Laura aka Godessofxanadu on flickr. A life long collector of beautiful fabrics, Laura lives in this charming Victorian home with her other half and cute pups. Can't wait to see more snaps of this beautiful homes as the pictures emerge on Flickr

Not only is Laura a great travel photographer but luckily for us also sells the beautiful Vintage Kantha Quilts she brings back from India via her  Etsy shop FatLama Vintage.
