South Indian Cow Heads

Sacred Bull of Shiva (Nandi)

My love for these South Indian Bull Heads started some years back when Graham and Green brought out their cow head (bottom image). At the time I was a poor student nurse and could not afford one, now they are sadly discontinued.

I have never really been a big fan of all the real carved cow skulls out there, for me having a real head on the wall is a little morbid, although i can totally appreciate the craftmanship involved. But, these wooden carved Nandi (Sacred Bull of Shiva) heads, painted with their big soulful eyes and big pink noses and ears are really light hearted and fun.... beautiful holy cows!

The Bohemian, Jewel Toned Home of.... Pippa Small

I love this wonderful bohemian jewel tone home of Jewelery designer Pippa Small. The two bedroom London apartment was a clinical white when Pippa moved in but she loved the place because of its sense of space and along with friend Gail Arnold, she set about transforming the place into the colorful home it is today.

On her travels for inspiration Pippa had built up a large collection of paintings, trinkets and textiles which she found worked perfectly with the bright coloured walls.

My favorite room is the sitting room, i love that blue/violet wall and that huge Indian painting. Such a dreamy exotic apartment.... would certainly cheer up a rainy British day!!

The Silk Roads on-line store opening last month was eagerly anticipated by all their Instagram followers. The store owned by friends Lou and Rachel is full of beautiful, and very reasonably priced, bounty from their many travels abroad.

On my first visit to the Silk Road I bagged myself a pair of beautiful Om spoons that were handcrafted by metal work artisans of Patan, Nepal and a really stunning Tharu Spike collar (I had wanted one of these for ages) and I am already have my eye on some of the beautiful textiles, especially the Rann of Kutch Wall Hanging.... so hands off! :)

Rachel is currently wowing instagram followers of her travel in Iran with her daughter Luna and her beautiful pregnant bump........  and giving me major wanderlust!... and awe.... walking to the corner shop was a mission when I was pregnant!

 I cant wait to see what global treasures she comes home with.

These Toran from India are great arent they? Each one is unique as they are hand-stitched. The ones I have seen usually feature Ganesh (mover of obstacles) at the center and then beautiful embroidered birds, animals and people.

Although they are tradionally door hangings they also look great above the bed or window....

I have always been obsessed with clothes, I guess it runs in the family. My aunt was a Biba and  Ossie Clark 'in-house model' and my mum is a big time clothing gal. Although I used to be adventurous with my clothes some where along the line I started wearing a lot of black and it is a comfort place I am making the move to get out of.

Although I like more unusual clothing I always wonder if I could pull it off, and black is so lovely and safe! Last week I took the plunge and purchased myself a beautiful Vintage Indian Gauze shirt and a waistcoat from Blooming Dreamer and was so thrilled I am hooked, in fact I have just ordered a vintage Phool dress too :)

Closets do look so much prettier in Colour.. don't you agree?

You know one of those elusive items that you see when you have overspent for the month and then spend years daydreaming about and kicking yourself for not getting? That is how I feel about the beautiful Indian Chakki Table that I saw in Glastonbury's Dilway and Dilway 4 or 5 years ago. Since then I have been searching and searching but have never found one in the UK that hasn't 'just been sold', too big for my sitting room or topped with a cushion and transformed into an ottoman.

Originally used as a base and stand for household stone mills they make great coffee tables, especially if you are clumsy like me and have habit of knocking over red wine and coffee as the raised edge can help prevent it running over the sides and ruining your carpet or favorite rug.

One day I will have one...

If I was to be the daughter of a Rolling Stone and money wasn't really of major concern, I would defiantly holiday here through the cold, miserable winter months.

Jade Jaggers Goan Holiday home is just beautiful isn't it? I may have to emulate the hot pink pillows and the silver cutlery in brass pots.
