Interior Designed..... Cabin Life

This cabin is dreamy isn't it? I love the way each room has its own theme, subtlety using textiles and pieces from around the world..... Indian block print textiles in the bedroom,  a Moroccan tray and kilim rug in the sitting room. My favorite room in the house is definitely the bathroom. I love the warm mustard paintwork and the Bhavacakra above the bath, this room feels the most warm and natural of all the cabins rooms. It feels like it belongs.

I say 'belongs' as the other rooms in the cabin although stunning do definitely look like rooms that have been put together by an interior designer rather than lovingly put together over time. The brief I guess was to give their holiday getaway a 'bohemian cabin' vibe... It just feels a little polished.... and some of the rooms a little incongruous... white carpet in a cabin!

... that is not to say I dont love it..... I would jump at the chance to live here. I would just have to scruff it up a bit, add some more house plants and change the hunting lodge feel of the bedroom.

Justina Blakeney X Loloi

I was a bit late to catch onto this one but the lovely Justina Blakeney has teamed up with Loloi to produce a range of rugs and cushions, and as one would expect from Justina, they are beautiful, bright and bohemian!

The range , which will be launched at this weekends Highpoint Market will feature 12 rug designs and 17 pillows.... I am personally already obsessed with both rugs above and those fluffy colourful looking pillows (in the bottom right of the top picture).... I can't wait to see the official launch

Guide to Creating a Relaxing Bohemian Home....

Bridget Bardot, San Tropez

I am so proud of my new ebay guide. I used the image above of Bridget Bardot in her San Tropez home as inspiration.

As my regular readers will know I don't usually work with larger corporations but I am a total eBay addict, especially for my own home furnishings. I really try to only buy second hand these days for ethical reasons and because I find the high street rarely inspires me. Why buy a Kantha copy when you can have the real deal for the same price or cheaper?

Any way, Please check out my 'Creating a Bohemian Home' guide and let me know what you think, I would love some feedback

Bar Cart Essentials

I love this Home bar with overhanging Star Lights

Home Bar
Bright and colourful Bar

Fully Stocked and ready to go

Vinyl and Booze :)

If like me you are a bit afraid of 'styling' your home then setting up a bar cart is a great place to start. You don't even have to have a dedicated bar cart, just a simple tray with a few bottles and a cocktail shaker will add instant edgy glamour and I think they always look put together.

If you wan to go one step further and get serious about your bar cart then luckily brands such as Hendrix Gin and The Bitter Truth not only make yummy alcohol but they also come in beautiful Victorian style packaging that looks great on the bar cart or just on your shelf!

My other favorite bar cart must haves....

Hendrix Gin
Amethyst Wine stopper by Brooklyn Thread
Long Wooden Stirrers by board and bread
Copper Moscow Mule Mug G & G Mercantile co
Vintage Claw Ice Pickers from eBay

Houseplants

Window garden: Mini cacti garden
Bohemian Home: Houseplants and a great view
Conservatory plants
Houseplants
Where the wild things are: You can never have too many houseplants
I love this Houseplant covered retro style table

This post is for my friends Anna and Shaun (check out his awesome webcomic here) who are moving house and asked for a post about houseplants. So here it is....

It is my opinion that no house (or workplace) should be without houseplants, not only do they clean the air around us but studies by the Washington State University showed that people with houseplants in their workplace were 12% more productive,  more relaxed, had lower blood pressure and were less stressed than those without.

Sadly I don't think it will catch on in hospital wards here in the UK where patient flowers have been banned in many hospitals. Personally I think this is ridiculous as when ill being in a calming environment would surely promote well being....

The rather elegant home of Tarajia Morrell....

Lovely Sepia Toned books.... p.s that Jamie at home book is  beyond wonderful

Loving that grass green sofa!

Dabouches

I am pretty obsessed with Style like U. I just find it so enthralling listening to people talk about their clothes and homes, I am genuinely so interested in peoples lives and stories (I guess that is also why I love nursing). I can really relate to a number of the guests but others are just so different from me and it is those guys that I like listening to.

I have picked the home of  Tarajia Morrell ,owner of fab food blog the Lovage ,to share as it is just so elegant in a way that clumsy old me could never be. That dressing table top is so glam and I just love that beautiful vintage sparkly dress.  Make sure you check out the video found here.

Are there any good interior or design blogs that you guys are currently obsessed with? Let me know as I am starting to build up a good links roll below.

Fabulous Tiles ....

The beautiful tiles add a would add a sense of the fabulous to any kitchen

Beautiful bohemian vintage tiles

Copper pot, tiles and baby blue sink

Beautiful hand painted tiles
I have surprised myself by loving these Mirror tiles

After years of renting and moving from house to house I have finally had an offer on a house accepted.....Eeek!

I am trying not to get my hopes up as there is so much that can go wrong, but.......... being a bit obsessed with interiors (don't know if you have noticed) I have of course spent a fair bit of time dreaming about removing the vile bathroom tiles currently in place and replacing them with something a little more exciting.

Nice tiles are so expensive, to cover a whole room or area would cost me a fortune that sadly i don't have however a small area over a sink (as below) or even a beautiful tile border surrounding cheaper plain tiles is a little more affordable.

A simple internet search will bring up some great links to a variety of tile shops. I have been drooling over fired earth!!

Creating a bohemian bedroom.. Pt 1. Lighting

The Astrostarlight projection kit -For the romantic bohemian that loves to lie under the stars.
A make it yourself lamp - flimsy with bad reviews on Amazon but I personally think this was one of my best ever purchases. I love it!!!!

For creating a chilled out bohemian Interior - Habitat's wonderful Moon lamps designed by Buzz Aldridge

Moroccan style lanterns like this one from Grahame and Green - Casablanca Tyre Lamp give a Bohemian glow and create patterns on the wall
These bohemian Handmade lampshades with dried leaves could be made easily

Create a romantic bohemian mood :Bohemian lighting: Fairy Lights
The ultimate source of  bohemian moon lighting - The candle

It doesn't matter what colour the walls or how many beautiful furnishings you have if a room is too bright or too dingy it wont help you achieve the chilled out vibe you are looking for. Lighting can be used to great effect to improve not only the look of a room but also your mood.

Light therapy has been used for centuries and many ancient cultures practised various forms of 'heliotherapy', including Ancient Greece, Egypt and Rome. The Inca, Assyrian and early German settlers also worshipped the sun as a health bringing deity.

I am a big fan of candle light, I swear the world seems like such a better place without any electrical interference. I am a big fan of power cuts :)

If you love the vintage look I thoroughly suggest you check out Goldstone Studios beautiful vintage lamps. They are just stunning!!
