Architecture: Peter Vetsch

In total contrast to my last post I thought I would post a calm, minimal interior and came across this fabulous 'earth house' by Architect Peter Vetch. Vetch has built over 47 earth houses around the world since the 1970's and has been an inspiration to many cob and earthship builders. I just love all those smooth curves..... formed by sprayed concrete.

The Home of... Romany Soup

I am so excited to show off this beautiful home to you all. It is so refreshing in what sometimes seems like a world of white walls, beni ouriain rugs, baskets and houseplants, to know there are still some wonderfully colourful, eclectic homes out there.

I have been blogging for nearly a decade and seen some of these photos many times circulating tumblr and Pinterest so it is great to finally find they all belong together!!

Learning to relax.....

Today is a Good day

When I first went back to work after having my son I had a little freak out and decided to stop working permanently in the Emergency Department and instead went to work in a more chilled out area of nursing. In my new role I was lucky enough to have a great team, set shifts 3 days a week, run my own clinics, work no night shifts and in a job in which, nothing really stressful (or life threatening) ever happened...... problem is... I realised a while ago (whilst doing a locum shift in ED) that I actually quite like the crazy stressful world of Emergency Nursing.... so a couple of weeks ago I returned.

It is just as stressful, fast paced, upsetting and wonderful as I remembered and I am so happy I made the right choice. One of the added bonus's of the job is my choice of only doing one 12 hour shift a week thus enabling me to spend more time chilling/baking/painting/playing with my son before goes to school.... which is magic!!! However, as he is still in nursery one day a week I also have an actual day off to myself for the first time in nearly 4 years!!!!

I have to admit, I spent so much time over the last 4 years dreaming about what I would do when I got 'me time', that now it is here I am finding myself a little giddy and overwhelmed with lists of jobs and plans I have been dreaming up.......

Needless to say it is all taking a little adjustment.......and one thing I have realised is I am not used to relaxing, this whole day seems like such a luxury and so alien........

So I am actually re-learning to release the gas (and mama guilt, that he is in nursery and I am at home.....he loves nursery)..... I have to keep telling myself it is okay to just chill, the house doesn't have to be spotless and this new time off can be spent finally reading some of the books that I have been longing to read since he was born., and blogging.... its all a work in progress!

Henry Matisse : Blue Nude II

My parents had a huge copy of Matisse's 1952 Blue Nude II when I was a child. I am not sure when they got rid of it as I can't remember when exactly it vanished between moves. I guess as it was one of the first pieces of art I ever saw I have always liked it and would really love a copy for above my stair way.

I know a lot of people think reproductions of famous artworks on their walls is a bit naff, but I say if it makes you happy then who cares? I haven't got time for all that snobbery :)

Below is a picture of Matisse's studio with some of his nudes on the wall

House Tour: An Australian Costal Cottage

 Gasp!!!

Unsurprisingly it was the huge round wooden window that drew my attention to this stunning costal cottage. The picture had been pinned with no source but thankfully Pinterest's new photo recognition tool saved the day and I was able to locate the Apartment therapy original (although I swear this home was also featured in Kinfolk some years back..... I never forget a round window).

The stunning costal cottage is home to Kirsty and Simon and their daughter Mali and is situated in Costal Victoria, Australia. The couple clearly have an eye for beautiful pieces and Kirsty runs online store Otis and Otto where she sells handmade pieces she has sourced.

Tess Guinery.... Earth Tones, Poetry and Rainbows

Tess Guinery

I love Instagram. I have connected with so many like minded souls and also drooled over many accounts. There are of course, the accounts that can leave me feeling a little poop (unfollow!!!), but there are also those that leave me feeling uplifted and inspired. One of the accounts I am loving at the moment is that of Poet and Artist Tess Guinery.

Her beautiful earth toned rainbows are so simple but so pretty and I would love one of these hand painted beauties. Her whole account is full of stunning earth tones, great poetry and happy pictures of family life...... :)

Here are a few pictures from her instagram account @tessguinery , but there are so many beauties to check out so well worth a visit :)
